Manny Muscat announces Retirement
Former A-League player Emmanuel "Manny" Muscat, after an illustrious football career with A-League clubs Wellington Phoenix and Melbourne City, and now with NPL club Green Gully SC, has decided it is time to hang up his boots and move on to the next chapter of his life.
Manny’s career has spanned 2 decades, being capped internationally 9 times for Malta, including a World Cup Qualifier against Sweden and 2 Euro 2012 Qualifiers.
After captaining Sunshine George Cross at 19 he made the switch to Green Gully SC in 2007, where he really stamped his authority as a top class player and leader having the most success in the Victorian NPL at his new found club. He went on to win the Best Player of the Year Award in 2007 at Green Gully SC.
In 2008, after 2 attempts at trying to crack the A-League, and after an initial short term signing to A-League club Wellington Phoenix, Manny’s passion and drive to succeed finally paid off with him being offered a full time contract by Wellington Phoenix. He appeared 192 times for the club over 8 seasons.
In 2016 he signed a 2-year deal with Melbourne City playing 37 games and in 2018 he returned to Green Gully SC.
“The opportunities that led me to my A-League days included playing with Gully legends Dean Fak, Zoran Markovski, Dragi Nastevski, Jeffrey Fleming and the Vargas brothers. A special thanks needs to go my former coach who was a 9-time premiership coach, Ian Dobson.
I want to take this opportunity to say thanks to the Green Gully SC and my family for all their support throughout my career, and I’m looking forward to what lies ahead, and spending some quality time with my family.”
We’d like to encourage all members and fans to come along to Green Gully Reserve this Saturday to wish Manny well in his final game for Green Gully SC against Oakleigh Cannons FC at 3pm.
We wish Manny all the best with future endeavours with the door always open to him at Green Gully SC.
