Final Score: Green Gully SC 3 : 3 Bentleigh Greens SC
Match Report by Coach Ted Latomanski
An opening 10 minutes that gave us a 2 goal lead, the boys created numerous opportunities in the first 20 minutes of the game.
The inability to finish our chances hurt us not getting a much deserved 3 points.
From the get go the boys started where they left off against Heidelberg and put the game up to Bentleigh, playing at a high tempo with great intensity, and Adisu getting on the end of 2 crosses from our captain Jack within the opening 10 minutes.
The chances came thick and fast early on, however we lacked that composure and killer instinct to kill off Bentleigh and as a result we conceded a goal midway through the 1st half ending the half 2-1 for us.
Josh Robinson made a couple crucial saves, saving our defensive errors and that gave us a reality check .
The ball speed and team effort was great and the half time talk was to keep that going and be more ruthless in front of goal.
The second period began and both teams were working hard, but Bentleigh came out trying to score the next goal and that left a lot of space for us to exploit.
Unfortunately, around the 70th minute we had been given a red card and that gave Bentleigh some hope and they scored 2 quick goals in succession making it 3-2 Bentleigh’s way .
In the last 5 minutes a high press from Jayden Vella forced their defence to play the ball back to their keeper and his clearance was poor landing just outside his box to Sebastian who comfortably passed the ball into the net making it 3-3.
I feel we did deserve the 3 points, the team showed fight and purpose and considering the late circumstances a point is better than none.
The challenge now is to back that up against Dandy City Friday night, keep a clean sheet and be ruthless in front of goals, hopefully we can get an away win.
