RD:18 | NPL U20s | Green Gully SC v Port Melbourne Sharks SC | 22/06/19
Final Score Green Gully SC 1 : 3 Port Melbourne Sharks SC.
Match Report by Coach Ted Latomanski.
Disappointing performance contributed to 3-1 loss.
The team had been performing well albeit not picking up maximum points over the last month however the game vs Port Melbourne brought us back to reality. It was important to put these performances into points and unfortunately that wasn’t the case against Port.
From the get go l feel we started on the back foot and struggled to adapt to Port’s game plan however we did get behind their fullbacks but lacked the final delivery in the box.
Ports 1st shot on goal resulted in us being down 1-nil in the 17th minute , poor marking and ball watching will always be punished.
On the 22nd minute we found ourselves 2 nil down much of the same poor marking and ball watching.
We did have much joy when we got the ball in wide areas creating 2v1’s but struggled to constantly have this outlet.
Chances were being created but we lacked the final pass.
Half time 2 – 0
I made a change at halftime bringing on 15 year old Raffa who plays for our U16 and we also had Brandon in the squad from our U16 team.
The second half was much the same as the 1st and we found it difficult to find our rhythm. The game lacked intensity and a purpose and could have been an off day.
Forced changes in the 70th minute gave a chance to the other 15 year old Brandon who in the 88th minute scored his first goal for the 20’s.
Overall not a game to remember and there is much to work on. Simply l feel the boys didn’t turn up and we were punished on 3 occasions, however the positive was to bleed a few young boys and to their credit they did well and will be better for it, so don’t be surprised if we see more youth having an opportunity looking at what we have within the club.
We stay positive and look forward to Avondale away.
