Green Gully SC will be looking to get back on the winner’s list in the league when they take on Hume City at Green Gully Reserve on Saturday afternoon.
Gully suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to bottom-of-the-league Moreland City last Friday night, surrendering an early one-goal advantage in the torrential rain at CB Smith Reserve.
Shifa Ahmed continued his bright run of form by opening the scoring before an Apai Ukuno penalty and Fletcher Fulton strike either side of half-time saw Moreland win their second consecutive game.
Gully also lost the Dockerty Cup on Tuesday night, falling 1-0 to St Albans Dinamo.
Their opponents this weekend, Hume, have lost pace in the top two races in recent weeks. They lost 2-0 to Oakleigh Cannons before being held to a 0-0 draw against Dandenong Thunder on the weekend.
Hume is also in Cup action on Wednesday night when they face State League 2 opposition Bayside Argonauts.
David Chick’s side have plenty of quality in attack, headlined by Lloyd Isgrove and Amir Abdallah, who have eight goals each to start the season, while Josh Bingham has four to his name.
Hume won the reverse fixture earlier this season 2-0 at home, with Mark Ochieng and Isgrove finding the back of the net.
Isgrove’s goal was the pick of the bunch, scoring a goal-of-the-season contender with an overhead bicycle kick.
Kick-off is at 1 PM, with the Under 23s taking the field shortly after at 3:30 PM.
The Under 23s continued their brilliant start to the season with a 3-1 victory over Moreland, remaining four points clear of South Melbourne atop the standings.
Meanwhile, Hume also drew 0-0 with Thunder and sit in 12th on the ladder.
