S2024 RD20 | MATCH PREVIEW | GREEN GULLY SC VS DANDENONG THUNDER FC

Green Gully SC is looking to make it back-to-back wins this Saturday night when they head down south to take on Dandenong Thunder at George Andrews Reserve.

Gully recorded one of their best wins of the season last weekend, defeating Oakleigh Cannons 4-2 at home, bolstering their chances in a late push for a finals berth.

Josh Hope fired home a brace, while Adolph Koudakpo and Jamie Latham scored one each as Gully raced out to a 4-0 lead in the opening 70 minutes before conceding two consolation goals from Stefan Valentini and Pierce Waring.

The win continues Gully’s undefeated start under new coach Ramon Falzon, who has overseen two victories and two draws since taking over at the start of June.

Gully are now seven points behind sixth-placed Port Melbourne Sharks, and need to continue stacking up the points in the final seven games of the season to try secure a finals berth in the coming weeks.

Their next clash comes against Thunder, who have won their last two matches and sit only two points behind Gully in 11th place.

Thunder backed up their resounding 3-1 win over Oakleigh with a 1-0 victory in the Derby against fellow finals contenders Dandenong City.

Birkan Kirdar scored the solitary goal as Thunder made it three wins in their last five games, with the gap now back to nine points behind the Sharks.

Kirdar has five goals to his name this season, while Wade Dekker has scored six goals since arriving from Oakleigh at the start of the campaign.

The two sides played out a 1-1 draw earlier this season at Green Gully Reserve, with Hope’s first-half goal cancelled by a Kirdar equaliser.

Kick-off is at 7 PM, with the Under 23s taking the field at 4:30 PM.

Gully’s Under 23s continued their brilliant campaign with a 2-1 win over Oakleigh last week, extending their lead on top of the table to six points clear of South Melbourne. Meanwhile, Thunder sit bottom after being on the end of a 6-1 hammering against Dandenong City.
