Green Gully Looks to Bounce Back at Home Against Melbourne Knights
Green Gully returns to Green Gully Reserve on Friday night, determined to turn their season around as they take on Melbourne Knights in Round 6 of the 2025 NPL Victoria season.
Despite last week’s heavy 5-0 defeat to Dandenong City, there were positives to take from the performance.
Young goalkeeper Thomas Favero made his senior debut in difficult circumstances and may be called upon again with both Lawrence Caruso and Liam Driscoll under injury clouds.
Remarkably, Gully outshot their opponents 14-10 and earned eight corners to City’s two, yet found themselves undone by a clinical Dandenong side who converted all five of their shots on target.
While results have been disappointing, the underlying numbers suggest that Green Gully is not as far off the pace as the ladder might suggest.
Turning strong moments into decisive results will be the focus as they look to get their season back on track.
Friday’s opponents, Melbourne Knights, have had a mixed start to the campaign but travel to Keilor fresh off a morale-boosting 3-0 victory over Port Melbourne at Somers Street.
Before that, they endured successive defeats against Oakleigh Cannons, Avondale, and South Melbourne but have shown their attacking quality in key moments, with Ciaran Bramwell leading the way with three goals in five games, supported by Fraser Dunlop with two.
Gully will need to be at their best defensively to contain a Knights side that is dangerous in transition and clinical when given space. However, with promising signs in attack and a home crowd behind them, Friday night presents an opportunity to reset and claim a much-needed first win of the season.
Kick-off is set for 7:30 PM at Green Gully Reserve. Fans are encouraged to get down early, enjoy a meal at the Gully Bistro and back the team as they look to spark a resurgence in their campaign.
