Green Gully is excited to announce the signing of Yusuf Ahmed for the 2026 NPL Victoria season.
Since bursting onto the Victorian football scene with Dandenong Thunder in 2015, Ahmed has cemented his reputation as one of the state’s most lethal finishers.
His 11-goal debut season saw the 18-year-old snapped up by the Melbourne City academy, where he spent three years honing his craft.
Ahmed then joined Avondale in 2019, and has since brought up his half-century of top-flight goals in 140 NPL Victoria appearances.
“I’ve been at my past club for a couple of years now, so I just wanted a new experience,” says Ahmed.
“I spoke to Chicky, there’s a lot of good things about this club, so I chose it straight away.
“It’s a very professional setup from top to bottom. There’s a lot of quality in the changeroom, so I’m looking forward to this year.”
Equally adept on either wing or playing as a #9, Ahmed brings verve and excitement in the final third.
“Taking on people, trying to score goals, trying to create for the team, working hard in defence,” he says, when asked to describe his approach.
“Just having fun. That’s my main thing when I go out there, I try to have fun, try to excite the fans that come.”
Ahmed also boasts international experience with 3 caps for Somalia, scoring on his debut away to Algeria in 2023.
“Packed stadium, playing against Riyad Mahrez and all that – it was the highlight of my career, for sure. I was supposed to go again but injuries got in the way, so hopefully next time.”
Ahmed joins Michael Weier, Lucas Simao, Taofiq Olomowewe, Tom Woerndl and Kur Kur as new acquisitions ahead of the 2026 NPL Victoria season – with further additions still to be unveiled.
