Wan Gatkek Signs With Green Gully SC for 2026 NPL Victoria Campaign
Green Gully SC is delighted to confirm the signing of Wan Gatkek, with the experienced midfielder joining the club for the 2026 NPL Victoria season.
Gatkek arrives with a strong football background shaped in New Zealand, having featured with Western Suburbs, Miramar and Western Springs, alongside a stint in the American college system. Originally from South Sudan, he grew up in Wellington and has built a reputation as a versatile, hard-working midfielder capable of adapting to different roles.
Explaining his decision to move to Australia, Gatkek said Green Gully appealed to him as a club and a football environment, noting that he liked the way the team plays and that the chance to work under David Chick made the move an easy one.
Comfortable across multiple midfield roles, Gatkek prides himself on his ability to read the game and adjust on the fly. He explained that he likes to keep his mind open to different situations, which shapes how he approaches matches.
Early conversations with head coach David Chick were key in finalising the move. Gatkek said the deal came together quickly after speaking in January, adding that Chick’s philosophy stood out straight away. He noted that it is clearly visible in training and matches, with a strong focus on developing players and helping them progress.
Already match-fit, Gatkek has settled into the squad smoothly and feels ready to contribute. He said the intensity and physicality of pre-season have been strong and that the group has been welcoming since his arrival.
Like Nathan Simes, Gatkek was surprised to learn he would be reuniting with a former teammate from Wellington, with both players signing independently before realising they would be together again at Green Gully.
Green Gully welcomes Wan Gatkek to the Cavaliers and looks forward to his impact in midfield throughout the 2026 season.
