S2022 RD19 MATCH REVIEW | NPL Men | GREEN GULLY SC V SOUTH MELBOURNE

It was our seniors versus the top of the table, South Melbourne, on a Friday night at Lakeside Stadium — now that’s motivation.

We started very well again. We started our last 7-8 games very well and like those we set the tempo early. We started our high tempo football very early and it led to us creating quite a lot of chances in the first half.

South resorted to long ball tactics as they did their best to gain some momentum, but we were okay with that. After some key messages rolled out by the staff at half time I felt we again settled well and had the upper hand early in the second half, but unfortunately couldn’t convert.

South had some momentum at the 70th to 80th minute with multiple long throws and long balls into our box but we stayed focused and saw out that period to later create a few chances in the final moments.

It wasn’t to be on the night but we were clearly the better side in my opinion which is pleasing when you play the top of the table leaders. The group is hungry and focused at this present time and it’s exciting to see what this group can collectively achieve.
