Tonight our senior group take on local rivals Melbourne Knights for the first Western Derby of 2022. The match will kick off in our usual 8pm time slot at Green Gully Reserve, our first NPL game back home since March 11 when we faced Dandenong City.
However it’s not been long since we hit the Green Gully park due to the Australia Cup game we hosted against Nunawading City on Tuesday. The boys earned a good win against the NPL 3 team, kicking six goals with two each for Nahuel Bonada and Ethan Brooks.
In our match prior we took on green counterparts Bentleigh at Kingston Heath Complex. They finished the match with the result, winning after kicking two goals in the second half.
The boys performed well and controlled the football for a major part of the game but we weren’t able to hit the net. A consistent feature to our game has been our forward pressure which we feel our win against Nunawading this week was a reward for the weeks we weren’t so lucky.
Melbourne Knights are coming off a win last week against Hume City (3-0). In the week prior they defeated St Albans 2-0 and Boroondara City 3-2 (Australia Cup). They currently sit in sixth with four wins and three losses.
Regardless of their results so far, our boys will be ready for a fight. Knights are a quality outfit and have been strong enough to pose a top-four threat this year. We’re excited to get underway!
