S2023 RD1 | MATCH REVIEW | NPL U21 | GREEN GULLY SC V OAKLEIGH GREENS

Friday night our Under 21’s travelled to Jack Edwards reserve for our opening fixture of 2023 against the Oakleigh Cannons. It was new head coach Andrej Maksimov first league fixture at the helm with some new and old faces filling out this squad.

The first half started with both teams on the front foot looking to dictate the game from early on, with both sides applying the pressure and unable to find a way through. Just before the break, Oakleigh hit on the counter and put themselves in the lead going into half time.

The second half began as both sides had a chance to regroup and find their way back into this game. Oakleigh extended their lead in the 68th minute with a ball finding their striker in behind.

Gully was awarded a penalty late in the game but unfortunately was unable to convert from spot.

We look to bounce back this weekend as we take on South Melbourne back at home this Saturday.
