Green Gully’s Dockerty Cup campaign resumes on Wednesday night, when they host Ballarat City at Green Gully Reserve at 7:30 PM.
Gully comes into the contest off the back of a stirring 1-0 win over reigning NPL Victoria champions Avondale on Saturday afternoon, ending an over two month wait for a win in the league.
Stephen Downes’ side were brilliant defensively, led by masterful performances from captain Taylor Schrijvers and Jalil Regague, who kept the Avengers’ star studded attack at bay.
Schrijvers was getting it done at both ends of the pitch, nodding home the winner off a short corner to give Gully a much needed victory at Avenger Park.
Now, their focus turns back to the Cup, where they will be looking to book their place in Round 6 against Ballarat at home.
Gully’s only win during their lean league patch came in the Cup, when they saw off VPL1’s North Geelong Warriors at home, locking in the clash with the State League One North West side.
Ballarat booked their place in the next round of the Cup with a 4-2 victory over VPL2 outfit Nunawading City, after initially beating Chisolm United to advance to Round 4 of the competition.
Following their relegation from VPL2, their league form has been inconsistent, winning three matches but losing two including their last match against Whittlesea United.
The winner will face St Albans or East Bentleigh as the away team in Round 6 of the competition.
