S2024 RD05 | MATCH PREVIEW | GREEN GULLY SC VS ALTONA MAGIC SC

Green Gully SC will be looking to get back to winning ways this weekend when they return home to face Altona Magic on Friday, March 8, in Round 5 of the 2024 NPL Victoria Men’s season.

Gully fell to a disappointing 3-0 defeat away to Heidelberg United last week, continuing an inconsistent start to the season that’s seen the boys win each of their home games but lose both trips on the road.

Stephen Downes’ side started strongly, but a red card to Taylor Schrijvers turned the tide against the boys. Goals from Josh Pin, Sean Ellis, and Ben Collins saw the Bergers run away with the three points.

In an added blow to Gully, striker Lucas Derrick went down with a serious arm injury.

It means Downes will have to tinker things both in defence and attack with both Schrijvers and Derrick on the sidelines this week at Green Gully Soccer Reserve.

This may open the door for both Mohamed Adam and Abdelrahman Kuku to come into the starting lineup this week.

Their opponent this week, Altona, lost each of their three matches to start the season.

Magic led by two goals early against Dandenong Thunder last week, with both Bul Juach and Mohammed Elhawli getting on the scoresheet, but surrendered their advantage en route to a 3-2 defeat at Paisley Park.

Goran Lozanovski’s side will be desperate for their first three points of the season as they look to turn their campaign around in the weeks ahead.

Kick-off is from 8 PM (AEDT) this weekend; make sure you get down and support the boys as we look to get back on the winner’s list!

U23 WRAP: PERFECT START CONTINUES WITH EMPHATIC WIN OVER BERGERS

Our U23 side continued their brilliant start to the 2024 season with a huge 5-2 win over Heidelberg on Saturday night. Brayden Portelli and Greg Simoa both fired home a double, while Shifa Ahmed added another in a big win at Olympic Village.

Gully are now five points clear atop the standings after four rounds, heading into their clash with Altona, who are in 11th after getting their first win of the season last week against Dandenong Thunder. Kick-off between the two sides will be on Saturday, March 9 at 10 AM (AEDT) at Green Gully Reserve.
