S2024 RD06 | MATCH PREVIEW | GREEN GULLY SC VS OAKLEIGH CANNONS

Green Gully SC head back on the road in search of a much-needed win, when they take on Oakleigh Cannons on Friday night at Jack Edwards Reserve (8:30 PM kick-off).

Gully come into the contest off the back of two consecutive defeats, with the latest coming in a 4-2 loss to Altona Magic, ending their perfect start to the campaign on their home deck.

The boys fought back from a goal down to take the lead early in the second-half, thanks to strikes from Adolph Koudakpo and Luca Tevere, before a run of three goals from the visitors saw them come away with the three points.

In an added blow, Abdelrahman Kuku was sent off in the dying moments, meaning he will miss the trip to take on the Cannons.

They will, however, welcome back captain Taylor Schrijvers from suspension while starting goalkeeper Liam Driscoll is expected to play despite coming off with a knock against Altona.

Their opponents were also in action against Altona on Monday night, where they won 3-1 in a catch-up fixture at the same venue.

Oakleigh currently sits in sixth place on the ladder but is undefeated and has a game in hand. Their Round 5 clash against Dandenong Thunder was abandoned due to crowd trouble.

The Cannons have been sensational at home since the start of the 2023 season, only losing once in the league, showcasing how strong they have been at Jack Edwards.

Gully lost both matches against Oakleigh last season, with Chris Taylor’s side winning the most recent encounter 2-1 in May.

We will be running our usual bus service to Jack Edwards Reserve for the clash on Friday night. The bus will leave the club at 6:30 p.m.

UNDEFEATED U23’S TAKE PERFECT START TO OAKLEIGH

Our Under 23 side will face Oakleigh on Friday night, looking to make it six wins from six games to start the season.

The boys battled through trying conditions on Saturday morning to continue their hot start to the season, seeing off Altona 1-0 at home.

Their opponents this weekend have started the season strongly, coming into the contest in third place on the ladder. Oakleigh secured their third win of the season with an impressive 4-2 victory over Dandenong Thunder last Friday, which has them in the mix with the likes of Gully and South Melbourne at the top of the table.

Kick-off is at 6:15 PM on the synthetic pitch at Jack Edwards Reserve, behind the main grandstand.
