Green Gully head on the road for a clash against the reigning champions Avondale on Saturday afternoon at Avenger Park.
Gully’s winless run extended to seven straight league games after a 2-1 loss at home to Port Melbourne Sharks on Saturday afternoon.
Emmanuel Peters opened the scoring for the visitors before Luca Tevere pulled one back on the brink of half-time.
However, a second-half penalty from Jackson Courtney-Perkins wrapped up the three points for the Sharks.
The loss leaves Gully in 11th spot on the ladder, eight points behind sixth placed Port Melbourne on the table heading into the midway point of the season.
Their next test won’t be easy by any stretch, coming up against an Avondale side who thrashed Dandenong Thunder 8-0 on the weekend.
The Avengers have won their last three matches and sit in second spot on the ladder, only three points behind South Melbourne.
They will, however, be without Kristian Trajceski after he suffered a serious leg injury in the win over Thunder.
Avondale won both meetings last season, with Gully’s last victory over the Avengers coming in 2021.
Before the action gets underway at 3PM, the Under 23s will take the field at 12:30 PM.
The boys continued their fine season with a 7-1 win over Port on Saturday, with Shifa Ahmed scoring four of those goals.
They sit top of the ladder, four points clear of South, while Avondale are in sixth spot following a 2-1 win over Thunder last week.
