Green Gully Looks for First Win of the Season Against Hume City
Green Gully is back at home this Friday night, taking on Hume City under the lights at Green Gully Reserve in what promises to be an intriguing Round 3 clash.
After opening the season with a loss to Dandenong Thunder and a hard-fought draw against Oakleigh Cannons, the Cavaliers will be eager to secure their first win of the 2025 NPL Victoria campaign. Standing in their way is a familiar opponent in Hume City, who arrive in Keilor fresh off a dramatic comeback win against Dandenong Thunder last week.
Hume’s win was powered by two late goals from Lloyd Isgrove, securing their first three points of the season after a Round 1 defeat to Preston Lions. With both sides sitting on three points or fewer after two rounds, this match shapes up as an important early-season test for both teams.
There will be plenty of reunions on the night, with Green Gully head coach David Chick and assistant Craig Filer facing their former club for the first time since making the move in the off-season. Star forward Aamir Abdallah, last season’s NPL Victoria Gold Medallist, will also line up against his former side after playing a key role for Hume in 2024.
Green Gully showed encouraging signs in last week’s draw, with Aamir Abdallah finding the net from the penalty spot and Gianluca Iannucci continuing to create chances in the final third. The Cavaliers will be looking to build on their attacking momentum while tightening up defensively after conceding in both of their opening games.
Hume, coached by Ric Marchiolli, has shown resilience in both of their opening matches and will be looking to continue their climb up the ladder. Currently sitting in seventh place with three points, they’ll be aiming to keep pace with the early frontrunners.
With both teams desperate to claim three points and former teammates going head-to-head, this match has all the ingredients of a gripping contest.
Kick-off is at 7:30 PM this Friday at Green Gully Reserve. Fans are encouraged to arrive early and enjoy a meal at the Gully Bistro before the action begins.
