S2025 RD08 | MATCH REVIEW | GREEN GULLY SC VS MELBOURNE VICTORY

Green Gully Triumph in Shepparton with Statement Win Over Victory

Green Gully’s road trip to Shepparton proved fruitful, as the Cavaliers returned to Melbourne with all three points following a gritty 2-1 win over Melbourne Victory at John McEwen Reserve.

In front of a healthy crowd in regional Victoria, David Chick’s side continued their recent upswing in form with a performance built on discipline, energy, and the clinical finishing of Kasper Hallam.

After a tightly contested opening period, it was Hallam who broke the deadlock late in the first half. A well-delivered corner from the left was met by the Gully winger, who rose at the near post to glance his header home and give the visitors a 1-0 lead heading into the break.

Victory responded in the second half and found their equaliser in the 74th minute. A swift counter-attack saw Jordan Hoey break down the right and deliver a dangerous ball into the box, where substitute Tommaso Minutoli was on hand to finish clinically from close range.

But the Gully response was immediate. Straight from the restart, Aamir Abdallah surged into the Victory penalty area and forced a save with a low-driven shot. The rebound fell perfectly to Hallam, who reacted quickest to poke home his second goal of the afternoon and restore Gully’s advantage just moments after being pegged back.

From there, Gully held firm. With the likes of Jalil Regague and Maurice Nugent marshalling the defence and Liam Driscoll continuing to offer leadership from the back, the Cavaliers weathered the Victory pressure and saw out the contest with maturity.

The 2-1 win lifts Green Gully further up the ladder and adds another layer of belief to a squad growing in cohesion and confidence. With Hallam now hitting form in front of goal and key players like Abdallah and Hope providing creativity and drive, Gully will look to build further momentum in the weeks to come.
