Gully Gear Up for Mighty Avondale Challenge
Green Gully faces one of their sternest tests yet as they host league leaders Avondale FC at Green Gully Reserve this Friday night.
Avondale have been electric this season, lighting up the NPL Victoria with dazzling attacking displays, currently sitting top with an imposing 10 wins from their opening 12 fixtures. The Avengers head into this clash fresh off a commanding 4-0 demolition of reigning premiers South Melbourne last week, a result showcasing the frightening depth and quality within their squad.
Striker Manny Aguek has been a standout performer for Avondale, leading their scoring charts with six goals. He’s well supported by a formidable cast including Kur Kur (4 goals), and a host of players with three apiece – former Gully man Luca Tevere, George Ott, Stefan Valentine, Stefan Zinni, and Yusuf Ahmed – highlighting the spread of attacking talent at their disposal.
However, Green Gully won’t be intimidated, viewing this as an opportunity to test themselves against the benchmark team in the league.
Despite a narrow 3-2 setback at Preston Lions last week, Gully have shown flashes of brilliance in recent matches, with Kasper Hallam and Josh Hope demonstrating they can match it with the best.
Coach David Chick will be urging his team to show resilience and tactical discipline against the high-powered Avondale attack.
With the local faithful behind them and a clear tactical plan, Green Gully will be aiming to halt Avondale’s charge and provide a timely boost to their own finals ambitions.
Kick-off is set for 7:30 PM at Green Gully Reserve.
