S2025 RD21 | MATCH REVIEW | GREEN GULLY SC VS MELBOURNE VICTORY FC

Gully Fire Late to Overcome Victory in Style

Green Gully turned on the second-half magic at Green Gully Reserve on Friday night, storming to a convincing 4-1 victory over Melbourne Victory FC and boosting their late-season finals push.

The Cavaliers were sharp out of the blocks, with Aamir Abdallah opening the scoring after just 11 minutes. A tricky dribble, a composed sidestep, and a clinical finish marked a perfect start for the hosts.

Victory, determined to make a fight of it, hit back midway through the first half. Patrick Wall tapped home from close range after good build-up play down the left, levelling the score and leaving the match finely balanced at halftime.

But whatever David Chick said in the dressing room worked wonders. Within three minutes of the restart, Scott Lochhead coolly restored Gully’s advantage after some delightful interplay left him with a straightforward finish.

The hosts then took control, and in the 63rd minute, Dor Jok produced the moment of the night—a sublime, audacious outside-of-the-boot chip over the advancing goalkeeper, sending the home fans into raptures.

With Victory scrambling to find a response, Green Gully sealed the deal three minutes from full-time. Joshua Hope, enjoying another standout evening, showed great composure to slot home a one-on-one chance and round off a thoroughly deserved win.

The three second-half strikes proved decisive, pushing Gully further towards finals contention and giving their supporters plenty to cheer about as the season heads into its final stages.
