S2026 | Lucas Simao Signing

Green Gully is delighted to announce that promising young goalkeeper Lucas Simao has joined the club for the 2026 NPL Victoria season.

[Joining Gully] was a bit of a no-brainer,” says Simao.

“I’m looking forward to playing some senior football and establishing myself in the NPL now.”

The 19-year-old is a Victorian local, playing his junior football at Moreland Zebras and Northcote City, before joining A-League outfit Western United.

Standing at 195cm, Simao is just as adept with the ball on the ground as in the air.

“I like to play with my feet. I’m pretty vocal, like to dominate the box and I’ve got quite good reflexes.”

Simao came to Gully assistant coach Craig Filer’s attention after playing for Western United’s VPL1 side against Filer’s son, Morgan. When the A-League side fell into financial turmoil, Filer spotted an opening.

“I spoke to him for two to three weeks, he was quite persistent. I came down for one session and haven’t looked back since,” says Simao.

“I want to grow as a player and develop myself in a senior environment. I can learn a lot off Michael Weier – I look up to him and he’s a great lad.”

Please join us in welcoming Lucas to the Gully family, and keep an eye out for more exciting announcements as we gear up for 2026!
