S2026 RD03 | MATCH REVIEW | GREEN GULLY SC VS AVONDALE FC

Gully suffer defeat at Avenger Park.

There are games that drift away. And there are games that are taken from you in decisive bursts.

Saturday was the latter.

Green Gully were defeated 5–0 by Avondale FC in a result that was shaped by clinical finishing and costly lapses at key moments.

The opening half-hour was competitive without being chaotic, but Avondale struck first in the 33rd minute when George Ott finished from close range to make it 1–0. Gully had moments of their own in possession, yet struggled to create genuine penetration in the final third.

Compounding matters, number one goalkeeper Michael Weier was forced off injured at half-time, disrupting any chance of a reset.

Seven minutes after the restart, Kristian Trajceski doubled the advantage with a composed finish in the 52nd minute. From there, the hosts grew in confidence while Gully found it difficult to wrest back momentum.

The third arrived in the 73rd minute through Seita Murai, who capitalised on space between the lines to push the contest further out of reach.

As the game stretched late, Avondale continued to press their advantage. Bruno Fornaroli added a fourth in the 83rd minute before completing the scoring in the 89th, punishing defensive gaps as Gully chased the game.

The evening ended in further frustration when Diego Cuba received his second yellow card in the 88th minute, reducing Gully to ten men in the closing stages.

There is no disguising the result. Five goals conceded, few sustained passages of control, and an injury setback made it a difficult night all round.

Three rounds in, the season has not started as planned. What matters now is the collective response.

Regroup. Reset. Respond.
