It is with extremely heavy hearts that we must announce the passing of Green Gully Soccer Club Founder, friend and legend, Henry Moakes OAM.
In 1955, Henry migrated from Floriana Malta to the Western Suburbs of Victoria with the dream of establishing a soccer club. It was the definition of humble beginnings, sewing their own uniforms, training and playing on a vacant paddock in St Albans as well as holding team and committee meetings from his own garage.
Now Green Gully stands with 66 years of proud history, success and lasting relationships and it is thanks to the dreams of one man. This lasting impact contributed to Henry’s Order of Australia medal which stood as one of his proudest achievements.
Our thoughts are with your friends and family, Henry. Rest in peace, and thank you for everything.
