Green Gully travel to Avondale this Sunday as they start their 2023 JNPL qualifiers. Over the past summer and festive period all our age groups have been putting in the hard work over what is a busy period. We sat down with Under 15’s coach Jayden Vella who told us how all squads are ‘fit and firing and really eager to learn and to listen to the coaches in their game plans.’
The Green Gully program…
“The Green Gully program has become a really elite environment over the past six or seven years since Aaron’s taken on the program. He’s done a phenomenal job in employing fantastic coaches and having really good people around the club.”
“We are also trying to create a close and open club culture. We’ve done so well in having first-team players like Gianluca Iannucci involved within our junior program. It creates an atmosphere around senior games and an eagerness for our players to learn off them and to see how they do execute the club philosophy at senior level.”
The expectations for the coming grading games and the season…
“The coaching staff and the technical directors are hoping that first and foremost each player is enjoying their football and each player is coming to training, learning each session.”
“That’s the main thing I guess, that’s why we’re playing football in the first place. If we achieve what we’d like to achieve, then that’s a byproduct of the development.”
The upcoming fixture…
“Avondale has a very good junior program similar to us, so it’s going to be a very good competitive day across the board. Both clubs play very good football so it’s going to be a really good matchup in all age groups.”
“So it’s an exciting time. It’s a really good round one clash.”
