S2022 RD14 MATCH PREVIEW | NPL MEN | GREEN GULLY SC V OAKLEIGH CANNONS

Tonight we officially start the second half of the season as our seniors take on the Oakleigh Cannons for the second time in 2022.

The last time we faced was in Round 1 at Jack Edwards Reserve. A lot of new faces took to the field for Gully but it didn’t take long before the chemistry emerged. Down 0-2 at half-time, our boys launched one of the best comebacks we’ve seen in recent times, kicking three goals in a half to take the win.

Despite that result Oakleigh’s season has played out impressively. They currently sit in second place above us and are perhaps the most in-form team in the league, having won their last five which includes a win over league-leaders, South Melbourne.

They also have one game in hand due to their match being called off with Melbourne Knights due to flooding. This means they sit in second despite being a game short of the rest of the league.

Suffice to say Oakleigh’s recent margins have been small. They defeated Hume City 1-0 (FFA) and then 2-1 last week despite a major gap between them on the table. Before that they recorded a fair margin against St Albans at 3-0, but in the fortnight prior defeated Bentleigh 1-0 and South 2-1.

Last week our boys won their fourth NPL game in a row, defeating Dandenong Thunder 3-0. We are also still alive in the Australia Cup after defeating Doveton 4-0, which further added to our strong form in front of goal.

Oakleigh will be our toughest opponent that we have faced in a good few weeks and our boys understand that. Join us at 8pm as we play third versus second at Green Gully Reserve.
