S2023 RD2 | MATCH REVIEW | NPL U21 | GREEN GULLY SC V SOUTH MELBOURNE

On Saturday afternoon our 21’s were back at home as we hosted South Melbourne in our Round 2 fixture. Our opening fixture against Oakleigh Cannons did not go our way which saw Oakleigh claim 3 points as they saw out that fixture 2-0.

The first 20 minutes were really positive as we pressed well in the opening minutes which resulted in us going up 1-0 thanks to a goal from Alex Cepirovski. South then had two set pieces and a lapse of concentration left us 3-1 down at the break with 10 men due to a red card.

The response in the second half was really good as we scored again in the opening minutes with Justin Spiteri getting assisted by Elioan Kifle to spark a comeback with 10 men. We then received another red card and we were down to 9 men. The boys still continued to play and didn’t lose hope as a super strike from Alex again from his own half equalised the game at 3-3. Five minutes later another chance hit the post. After that, it was a tough match as South took advantage of the extra men and opened up the game which saw South take all 3 points.

A huge shout out to the squad for continuing to attempt to play & showing real passion and desire to keep the game level, even when south broke away the boys kept pushing and trying to play.

Not the result we wanted but super positive signs from the U21s.
