It’s been a big week for our Seniors, coming off consecutive games against a strong Oakleigh Cannons.
While unable to secure results in either the NPL or FFA Cup matches, the boys have continued to show a lot of character and resilience when the odds are stacked against them.
Looking back on our first hit-out, it was clear the night got the better of us. Despite playing some great football, the two-man disadvantage set us back too much to build a comeback.
Regardless the boys showed real grit and character, and made Oakleigh work for their win.
On Tuesday we faced Oakleigh again, this time at Jack Edwards Reserve. We played four of our emerging 21s players, of which Jack Cotsanis and Nick Giarrizzo lined up for kick-off.
Both Nick and Jack played for the majority of the game, helping to add a different dimension to our squad and attacking play.
In the end, we lost 3-2 but it easily could have gone our way if our close misses found their way to the net. It was arguably one of our best performances of the year even with outs in Jay
Davies, Jeremy Walker, Matthew Fletcher and Caio De Godoy. It wasn’t a win but it was a huge step in the right direction. We were hungry on Friday and Tuesday despite the odds.
Tonight, we hope we can continue this intensity and get back to our winning spirit.
Get around us at 8pm as we take on Altona Magic at GG Reserve.
