It took a month but tonight our GG Seniors return home to the Gully Faithful to take on Oakleigh Cannons.
Admittedly our return last week didn’t go as we had hoped. Despite playing two solid halves the result fell Heidelberg’s way (1-0), allowing them a top-3 spot in the company of Avondale and Bentleigh.
Though the focus is on tonight, as it has been for each round. We’ll approach this game confidently knowing that our best football is of top-four quality – a position Oakleigh hold themselves.
In our last encounter they got the better of us with two goals in the first 20 minutes. The year before, we bested them in a similar upset.
Oakleigh have performed well this year to take out their fourth spot and will not be an easy team to beat. Moreso, tonight’s match will lead in our Tuesday FFA Cup game, which coincidentally will also be against Oakleigh Cannons.
Our two teams will be seeing plenty of each other over the next week. Let’s make sure we leave having made a statement.
